Home learning ideas:
5 little men in a flying saucer flew round the world one day!
- Listen to the story ‘Whatever next ‘ by Jill Murphy and hear about Baby Bear’s trip to the moon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6c5cb0u0rPM.
- Find your own space boots (wellies) and helmet (colander) and a space rocket (box) to go on your own adventure.
- I wonder what aliens look like? How many eyes could they have , how many hands or noses? Paint your own alien using bright colours and then send us a photo!
- On a clear night look up at the sky and see if you can see the stars, moon or maybe even a satellite.
- https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/curations/space-week Click this cbeebies link to find a range of games, stories and things to make in ‘Space' week.
- Use your recycling to make your own space ship model.
Have fun!
Today we are learning with one of our favourite books
The very hungry caterpillar
- Listen to the author Eric Carle read the story here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkYmvxP0AJI. You can tell the story too!
- The hungry caterpillar loves fruit - it’s very healthy! Can you make a delicious fruit salad with your mum or dad? What will you choose to put in it?
- At the start of the story a caterpillar emerges from the egg – print your own caterpillar using a lid or recycled yogurt pot and make your own caterpillar.
- Caterpillars make an amazing transformation. Watch as the butterfly emerges https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgtmlVqCKxc
- Butterfly painting is so much fun. Fold a large paper in half - splatter paint spots on one side then quickly press down the other half of the paper and when you open the page you will see a butterfly.
- Butterflies love to spend time in gardens with flowers. Take a walk around your garden or local park and look for flowers attracting butterflies, bees and other wildlife!
Storytime
If you use a different language at home you may be interested in a website called world stories https://worldstories.org.uk/. It has a whole range of traditional and new stories told in many languages including Polish, Bengali, Portuguese, Romanian and Turkish. Take a look!
Superheroes! Supertato thinks the peas are 'evil' but we love peas!
- Sing the song: 5 little peas in a pea pod press, one grew, two grew and so did all the rest, they grew and they grew and they did not stop, until one day the pod went pop!
- Play the vegetable guessing game by clicking the link here https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/puzzles/our-family-vegetable-quiz . I wonder if you can guess them all?
- Listen to the fairy tale of the Princess and the pea - https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/stories/melody-princess-and-the-pea. Can you make a bed for one of your toys?
Have fun!
We are thinking about superheroes this week:
- Listen to story of Supertato https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlaMeNmTG6c and using a vegetable make your own superhero. Each superhero vegetable needs a mask, cape and superpowers!
- Talking time - would you rather be invisible or fly? Ask your family too. If you were invisible what would you do? Where would you fly?
- Use a lolly stick or wooden spoon to make your own superhero puppet.
- Did you know you are surrounded by superheroes? Lots of people do amazing things to help look after you. Make a picture or card for someone who you think is an amazing superhero – they could be very strong or kind or brave!
- Listen here on Cbeebies https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/radio/justins-house-superhero-party as Justin has a superhero party with Messy man.
We would love to see your superhero photos!
Maybe you could encourage your child to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge at the library? It is also available online this year.

Going on a bear hunt by Michael Rosen.
- Listen to the story here and join in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gyI6ykDwds Retell the Bear hunt story with sounds and actions. ‘Splosh’ and ‘stumble’ to tell the story.
- Be an explorer! Make an outdoor den with sheets, crates and binoculars. What will you see? Who will you invite into your den?
- Draw a bear. Talk about the shapes you use to make a bear; circle face and eyes, triangle nose, semi-circle ears etc.
- Barefoot ‘bear hunt’ walk in your garden - feel the grass between your toes, squish in mud and splash in water!
- Create a bear mask to wear and surprise your family. Boo!
- Listen to this alternate version ‘We’re going on a lion hunt’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03i5v1PS7P4. Think of your own version too.
