Pirate fun!
- Can you use a paper plate to make your own pirate puppet ? Look here for ideas https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/makes/the-lets-go-club-paper-plate-pirate
- Draw your own treasure map, roll it up and place into a bottle!
- Make a boat which floats using your recycling boxes and cartons. Talk about materials used eg plastic or cardboard and what effect water has on materials.
- Enjoy the story Pirates love Underpants https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vd8_Y1bEzA8
Today is National Writing day so I'd encourage you to get a pen, pencil, piece of chalk or paintbrush into your child's hands and let them 'write'. Early stages of writing are simply making marks through to making definite lines and circles, then letters. Children love to write alongside adults so let them make their own shopping list, write a message or card and experiment with the letters or shapes they can make. We would love to see your photos. Send to us at [email protected]. Have fun!
Here are some Pirate themed ideas to try:
The big ship sails on the Ally Ally Oh
- Listen to the song and join in here https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/nursery-rhymes-the-big-ship-sails-on-the-ally-ally-oh/zkpp7nb
- Be a pretend pirate! Make pirate hats and flag .Dress up and act out sailing on the seas and looking for treasure. We would love to see your pictures!
- Mums and Dads can you please freeze some pennies in ice cubes? Set your child a challenge to free the treasure hidden in the ice. What is the best way to free the treasure?
- Float on the top of the water or sink to the bottom of the sea? Get a bowl of water and a few different things from around your home to try. Have a guess if it will float or sink before you put it into the water.
- Think about ways to save water, turn off the tap while you brush your teeth and catch rainwater for watering your plants.
- Play a jigsaw game at https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/puzzles/swashbuckle-jigsaw-game
More colours and play learning:
- Make a house for a toy animal so you can keep it safe at home. You can use your lego, bricks or cardboard boxes.
- Go on a listening walk with a checklist: can you hear a bird ? a car? A dog barking? Maybe children playing? Draw all the things you can hear.
- Listen to story ‘Mixed’ here at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIbGioTNs4M and say what your favourite colour is. Find items which match.
- Threading a necklace using pasta tubes then painting them.
- Bubble blowing and popping . Use a pipecleaner to make a bubble blower and make the largest bubble you can.
All the colours of the rainbow!
- Play a game of colours hide and seek. Hide objects around your garden or house and then set your brother or sister a time limit to find them all. When you’ve got them back, sort into colours and count. Which colour has the most?
- Messy time! What do you get if you mix red and yellow? Paint one hand red, your other hand yellow then print and mix.
- Sing a rainbow song https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/nursery-rhymes-i-can-sing-a-rainbow/zn3tqp3
- Be a scientist and make your own rainbow. Al you need is a glass half full with water, a piece of white paper and a sunny day. Put your paper on a window ledge where the sun is shining through and as you place the glass of water on the paper you can see a rainbow shining onto the paper.
- Wrap a rolling pin or tube in string or bubble wrap. Roll through stripes of paint and onto paper to make different rainbow marks.
